The Journey Begins: ACT Foundation Launch, October 2013

Posted: October 3rd, 2013

In October 2013, thought leaders from the areas of business, technology, education, economic and community development, and philanthropy, gathered in Austin, Texas, to embark on a remarkable 24-hour journey with two main purposes: to introduce participants to ACT Foundation, its mission, and its four initial investments; and to foster the connections, ideas, and conversations that will be critical to bringing the Foundation’s vision to life.

Dr. Parminder K. Jassal, Founding Executive Director, introduced two concepts central to the work of ACT Foundation: working learner, or a person who is actively engaged in learning while balancing work and other life obligations; and National Learning Economy, an environment in which people are valued for their ability to perform rather than where and how they acquire knowledge and skills.

As attendees traveled to various historic and colorful destinations across Austin, they were noticeably energized and inspired by the Foundation’s goal to build and support a thriving National Learning Economy by serving the needs of working learners and better connecting them with businesses in need of skilled workers.
